I’ve been on a beach vacation—a glorious, wonderful beach vacation. Today’s my last day (sob). Here are some things I’ve read lately, while the waves crash, or pre-vacay, huddled under a blanket on the couch in Pittsburgh:

Publishing Related:

  • Kathleen Rooney’s introduction to Belt’s new edition of Edna Ferber’s The Girls, which includes a fantastic discussion of my favorite topic, “middlebrow fiction”

  • “Deferred Storytelling,” a talk by the incomparable Vivian Gibson.

  • This feel-good story about an author, but it’s the middle section, the “feel bad” part, that I can’t stop thinking about.

  • This really lovely review of my book-based-on-this-newsletter (sorry not sorry for the self-promo).

  • This fabulous podcast episode about the importance of local and regional (and indie and academic) presses, and Appalachian literature.
