I have broken out in a strange rash. Big blotches across my chest and back. They don’t hurt, or itch; they are not raised, or broken, or any of the dozens of things that googling “why do I have this strange rash?” reveals is common. I’ve also been feeling off for about a week now. I hate doctors but I have braved some tests, and whatever this is is either some mild virus or, what all the googling points to when I put in all my symptoms: “stress,” or “chronic stress.”

My life is absurdly easy is almost every way. I have nice and affordable housing. My son just graduated from college and is happily doing post-collegiate things. Everyone in my family is healthy and self-sufficient. I have loving friends. But, yes, I have lots of anxiety and stress, and it is related to my job, which is what I write about here in this newsletter (welcome new followers, fellow fans of Robin Sloan! I’m not usually so confessional).
