For as long as there has been a Belt Publishing, Martha Bayne has been integral. We began working together in 2014, when the EIC of Belt Magazine, then the central “Belt,” —the press having only published one book (under our first name, “Rust Belt Chic Press,” lol)—quit suddenly with 1 hour notice. I was….. swamped. I reached out to a group on FB to see if anyone was able to do some freelance editing for the pieces piling up in my inbox. Martha said she was. I sent her one piece; she sent back such incredible edits that I said, “hey want to keep doing this?” and before long she was the new EIC of Belt Magazine. Martha continued in that role until we decided to make the magazine a non-profit, and separate it from the press (now with a half dozen or so titles under its new name). We hired a new EIC—now ED (Executive Director)—and Martha ‘moved’ over to the press, becoming an editor, around 2017.
